Keith Reins has played music professionally for 40 years and has focused on various styles of traditional music for most of that time. He currently performs in the eclectic Irish band, The Beggarmen (www.beggarmen.com) and the traditional The Big River Reel Time Band. He also teaches guitar workshops and is a regular teacher and performer at the St. Louis Tionol, one of the leading Irish music festivals (www.tionol.org). In 2010, Keith received a Major Artist Grant from the Iowa Arts Council to produce The Beggarmen’s third CD, A Soft Day. In 2011, Keith received an endowment from The Kirkwood Community College Foundation to research a collection of folksongs and write a series of ten essays about the songs, the folk song tradition and song craft. The project is entitled, Folk Songs You Never Sang in Grade School. Keith is currently adapting the project into a performance.
